Lucas Katema joined the KPA Retirement Benefits Scheme 2012 (DC) on 1st June 2025 as a sponsor-nominated Trustee and was elected as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees on 23rd June 2025. He has over 27 years of experience in the fields of Human Resources and Administration, Occupational Safety and Health and Commercial and Insurance services.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resources Management from Egerton University and an MBA in Strategic Management from the University of Nairobi. He also holds an MSc in Maritime Affairs (Port Management) from the World Maritime University (Sweden) and an MSc in Occupational Health & Safety from Turin University (Italy). His professional training includes Post Graduate Diploma in Marine Insurance Law and Practice from the World Maritime University and Strategic Leadership Development Program(SLDP) and Senior Management Course (SMC) from the Kenya School of Government. He has completed the Trustee Development Training Program (TDPK) and attended Audit Compliance and Risk workshop, among many others.

He is currently the Manager Commercial and Insurance Services at Kenya Ports Authority. He previously served as the Principal Commercial Officer, Senior Occupational Health & Safety Officer and Field Training Officer. He is a member of several professional bodies, including the Kenya Institute of Management (KIM), Institute of Human Resources Management (IHRM), Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS), and the Environment Institute of Kenya (EIK).
